Three years ago when the Frontier Group of Cos. bought the former Sheehan residence from the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, a deed restriction prohibited the use of the Sheehan name.
“It was an easy ask,” said Chris Wietig, Frontier director of development. “Finding another name may have been the easiest part of the project.”
The 94-year-old, three-story building at 330 Linwood Ave was part of the campus for the St. Joseph’s New Cathedral, which was demolished in 1976.
After completing the $1.3 million deal in February 2019, Frontier privately financed more than $1.7 million to renovate the rectory into 20 market-rate apartments. The Residences at Linwood Manor officially opened April 29.
“It is a beautiful building,” said Jessie Fisher, Preservation Buffalo Niagara executive director. “We are very happy to see (residential) re-use for the building.”
